The Marina

The Marina
By Erik Lillquist

Down on the far North end of town where all the hills of San Francisco give way to the bay sits the notorious neighborhood known as the Marina. A large swath of commerce stretching along the manicured streets of Union, Fillmore and Chestnut. Hated on for being "un-San Francisco" or "DB central" and loved for being home to some of the city's best restaurants, bars and shopping, no San Franciscan stays neutral on the Marina for long.

If you are looking for the hustle, bustle, grit and grime of the city, this ain't the 'hood for it. Streets are clean, shops are trendy and the people are well dressed and clean cut. Don't let the groomed and civilized surface fool you though, this neighborhood tears it up as hard as any other just about every night of the week. Whether it's a bar crawl, dinner at one of the many trendy neighborhood feasteries or just a flat out party night, The Marina has a night (or day for that matter) in store for you.

It's time you got the real scoop on the Marina. Read on for our picks for the best places to fill your belly, pickle your liver and nurse that hangover the next day.
