Temple is a San Francisco nightclub located at 540 Howard St.- home of the legendary DV8 (‘85 to ’99) and Mercury (‘99 to 2001) clubs. Temple is an Entertainment Complex of ancient essence fused with technological sensibilities. Comprising of 4 Rooms, 6 Bars, 3 Dance Floors, a restaurant and multiple VIP Areas, Temple is the creation of visionary Paul Hemming.
PAST: Paul Hemming’s Chinese American background and his insatiable hunger for knowledge transformed him into a human bridge of East and West. With a film background and passion for art, surprising circumstances launched him into a musical detour that lead to a DJ career and creation of the record label, Zen City Records (2001).
Paul’s devotion to healing through music inspired him to create the Zen Compound LLC, which embodies all of the projects mentioned here. After two years of hard work, guidance of the City and support from the Entertainment Commission, Paul and his team have finalized all of the needed permits to launch Temple Nightclub. Safety issues are utmost importance given the size and scope of this project. Temple houses artifacts and artwork that evoke the ambiance of a museum.
FUTURE: Temple invites your suspension of disbelief to travel through time with special effects and filmic ideals. Temple expands to include Prana Restaurant, which features organic delicacies and East Indian flavors, utilizing a holistic approach. Prana’s cuisine honors the body as a Temple. To nourish the mind, Zen Compound introduces the Zen Healing Center complete with Bodywork, Sound/Light Healing, and Acupuncture. A record store, music studio, garden and learning center are also in the works.
Temple Nightclub is committed to showcasing emerging talent and providing its visitors with a diverse and fresh musical forum, which is very different than the “Promoter” or “Big Name DJ” formats that most San Francisco nightclubs adhere to. Temple is now open Fridays and Saturdays and features cutting edge House, DnB, Breaks, Progressive, Dubstep and Downtempo.
