Like the down beat in a live mix, Beat Electric is bringing back the tracks you’ve never heard before. Digging deep to reintroduce the best in lazer soul, proto-house, rare disco and 80's boogie to a digital age, the Beat Electric DJs will be kicking off a free monthly discoteque this Saturday, Aug. 23, at Deco Lounge on Larkin and Turk Streets. They are rockin' it late night, till 4 a.m.
The Beat Electric DJ’s spring forth from their cooperative blog to form a coalition of musically interested minds. Founders Black Shag And BT Magnum specialize in rare 80's modern soul and boogie, while Safety Scissors focuses on early Chicago house, LeBaron is an italo disco wiz and Kelley B likes to get her disco, cosmic.
Ripping these rare songs off of wax with the help of a souped-up Technics SL1200 and posting them at Beat Electric is the name of the game for this intrepid group. Going further to research the obscure lives and careers of the musicians and bands that created the sound brings these tracks to life.
Also, don’t miss the Beat Electric DJ's every 2nd Tuesday at KoKo Cocktails on Geary between Polk and Van Ness. This event is no cover as well. Free music, Free parties. It seems you cannot go wrong with the Beat Electric crew.
