Treasure Island Music Festival is coming to the bay area this weekend. Fortunately, the organizers have set it up so that there is no overlap between performances on each stage. That way you do not have to miss a single performance. For those of you that do not have the stamina to make it through every single set, we'll break it down and give you the festival highlights:
Saturday September 20
Bridge Stage 3:00 PM: Antibalas
Now in their 10th year as a band, Brooklyn, NY collective Antibalas is a well refined machine, churning out politically charged heavy Afrobeat anthems in the tradition of Fela Kuti. The 12 piece Afrobeat Orchestra is a well oiled machine that always lay down a live set that is second to none.
Tunnel Stage 3:45 PM: Foals
Hailing from Oxford, UK, Self described "snotty art school dropouts", Foals have had quite an impact in recent years as their unique blend of electronica and psychedelic rock has taken the indie scene by storm.
Bridge Stage 7:25 PM: TV on the Radio
Brooklyn's TV on the Radio are one of the most exciting rock bands to come on the scene in ages. The bands soulful take on rock with subtle electronic flourishes has propelled them to new levels in the last several years. An energetic live set always takes things up a notch.
Tunnel Stage 8:25 PM: CSS
Brazil's female dominated CSS has had a meteoric rise as of late. Touring in Support of the band's new record, Donkey, the band's take on dance punk has earned them plenty of fans and critical praise. Lead singer Lovefoxxx always delivers the goods in concert.
Bridge Stage 9:15 PM: Justice
Justice needs little introduction. Bridging the gap between Electro and Hard Rock, Justice went from a small club act to being a massive headliner in a very short amount of time. The French duo's impact on pop music is unparalleled as they have almost single handed brought electro and disco beats back into the American mainstream lexicon.
Sunday September 21
Bridge Stage 4:30 PM: Spiritualized
Legendary British space rockers Spiritualized have been churning out epic rock anthems for nearly 20 years. Mastermind Jason Pierce and company are never to be missed when they make the trek to the United States.
Bridge Stage 5:55 PM: Vampire Weekend
Vampire Weekend bring a nice modern twist on the new wave/ post punk sound that artists like the Talking Heads helped pioneer in the late '70's
Tunnel Stage 8:20 PM: The Kills
Touring in support of their excellent new record, Midnight Boom, English Duo The Kills bring the sex and darkness back to the forefront of their sound to stellar results.
Bridge Stage 9:05 PM: The Raconteurs
With The White Stripes on a seemingly long hiatus, Jack White's side project The Raconteurs now carries the torch for throwback Detroit garage rock anthems.
