The chefs at
Foreign Cinema Foreign Cinema recently opened Show Dogs, a gourmet and artisan sausage shop. But this is no ordinary frank: these all-organic links come in varieties of duck, lamb, boar, chicken, and some vegan-friendly thing. Located in one of the sketchier parts of the theater district at 6th and Market (yeah, we know), this restaurant makes the trek through what has been called "the dodgiest triangle of urban real estate in the City", worth it. Not sure if we have the balls to sit outside, but we enjoyed the freakshow from behind the safe confines of thick glass.
Show Dogs makes all of its own condiments, from the saurkraut down to the mustard, and has the special acme buns custom-made just for them. Each condiment, like the fig chutney, agave slaw or tartar sauce, has been paired with a specific flavor profile to bring out the flavors in each dog. The Organic Duck Sausage with Kimche and Pasilla BBQ sauce, Corn Dog, and the onion rings come highly recommended. And, if you happen to be a vegetarian or vegan, their vegan dog is supposed to be pretty damn good.
Inside the contemporary-styled locale you sit on antique, 200 year-old church pews (watch out for nails, they could rip you a new one) and sip on some locally-made beer. You can buy it in 4, 8 and 16 oz sizes depending on your intentions. Finally there's a place for some serious sausage and a good brew outside of the ballpark.
GetWize: For special discounts and happy hours, become a fan of Show Dogs on Facebook. Show Dogs is located at 1020 Market street, open from 11:00am-8:00 pm (you really don't want to be on that corner much later than that), and closed on Sundays.
