Guide to Sunday in SF
Sunday Guide to Drinking

These are the spots that Josh Groban would hit up if he was still alive and liked Champagne. We carved this into two parts the morning and the afternoon that way you can have a battle plan to properly waste your day. Leave your car keys at home on this one.

Morning

Lime
2247 Market St
(415) 621-5256

This place is the epicenter of destruction for all of our Sunday inspired debauchery. Its so epically wonderfully notoriously indicative to alcoholic induced greatness that on Mondays when people ask what happened the day before and you groan out "Lime" and stare with blood shot eyes back at them, those in the know will understand and back away carefully.

Its like a huge club with tables that have unlimited Mimosas for $6 with your incredibly low priced meal. Be warned, you are in the 'Stro, there will be half naked boys running around but unless your totally new to the city - you've seen this all before. The trick is with all you can drink anything, just because it says so, it doesn't mean you have to do it.

Reserve a table at least three weeks in advance or prepare to spend up to an hour and a half waiting for one. Bring at least 4 or 5 of your closest drinking buddies, have a couple pitchers of mimosas and take a break in the middle for water and shots of chilled vodka then resume. The thing is that the vodka will sink to the bottom of your stomach like draino and keep the super sweet mimosas from reeking to much havoc on the old gulliver.

There is a DJ inside, it's loud, there are bright colors and long lines to the bathroom. Pace yourself, eat something before you eat there - like a big burrito to absorb all the booze - and prepare to stumble around the rest of the day, pirate eye squinting as you stagger off into the sunset.

Lime San Francisco

Circa
2001 Chestnut St
(415) 351-0175

If all you know about Circa is that head Chef Eric Hopfinger got dissed for some corn dogs then your are missing out. Circa is a great Marina Sunday brunch scene that features $9 bottomless Mimosas with a more subdued atmosphere than Lime. Unless we're there of course. Being a big space with a celebrity Chef it still feels comfortable with a friendly staff that cater to all your fernet and champagne inspired needs. Here the portions are as big as the blackouts but you get the opportunity to wander aimlessly around well manicured plebeians with baby strollers on streets lined with shops and good intentions. You'll be slurring, they'll be staring.

Circa San Francisco

Puerto Alegre
546 Valencia St
(415) 255-8201

The first place on the list that doesn't feature bottomless anything but has the occasional wandering Mariachi band - which is a fair trade. Puerto Alegre is great because there's a lively mission crowd and big margaritas that come in pitchers for about $30 each. You need to go with about 6 friends to really capitalize on this because if you each spend thirty you'll definitely be in a good way. The food is the standard mission fare - but its the drinks that will make you go wild. The other patrons always seem to be ready to have a great time and its not uncommon to swap pitchers with other tables. The bonus is that you're in the mission so you'll only get weird looks for being sober.

Afternoon

So now that you've got the all important first drinks of the day out of the way and maybe even got a chance to eat something. You've got places to stumble or cab it to and your BAC is not on your side. You'll probably want to be somewhere semi-public with a lot of like minded people who really want to enjoy themselves, irresponsibly. Here's some spots we've found ourselves in over many a Sunday:

Zeitgeist
199 Valencia St
(415) 255-7505

Really a no brain-er. Its got a big outdoor area full of tables, great grill and a very relaxed boozing friendly atmosphere. Its a mixture of tattooed hipsters and tattooed bikers and worshippers of Bacchus.

Zeitgeist San Francisco

Park Chalet
1000 Great Hwy
(415) 386-8439

Just blow past the main Beach Chalet restaurant with all their snobbish sobriety tomfoolery and head right into the lovely Park section of the restaurant and sit yourself square down on the warm inviting grass. Its like a big catered picnic that like everything is more fun in a group. The best part is that if the lines to the bathroom get to long you are right next to Golden Gate park.

Park Chalet San Francisco

Medjool
2516 Mission St
(415) 550-9055

We've mentioned the roof top bar before and now we'll do it again. Fresh air, sometimes a DJ and a cash only bar lead to an exciting way to spend an afternoon. There's a grill, a great little bar and a relaxed waitstaff that serves you cocktails in sunglasses.

Medjool San Francisco

There you have it - an easy and boozy way to spend a fine Sunday drinking day in the 'sco. Due to the capacity or our livers we couldn't hit everyplace in one day but we tried. Cheers.
