Focused on promoting “music that moves" ie: stuff you can dance to, Sunset Promotions has created a collective focuse on bringing the Bay Area events with an eclectic mix of musical genres. Their resumé of events includes: the North Beach Jazz Festival, the San Francisco Funk Festival, Sea of Dreams NYE Ball, the Frenchmen Block Party, and the San Francisco and Los Angeles Mardi Gras Balls. Since the beginning of their career in 1997, with the San Francisco Mardi Gras, Sunset Promotions has been conceiving, producing, and promoting musical events focusing on (but not limited to) funk, soul, jazz, latin, world beat, New Orleans boogie, and hip hop.

Most promoters tend to stick to one venue when promoting their artists and events, but Sunset Promotions gets around like Tupac did back in the nineties. They have worked in conjunction with many venues throughout the city, including Bimbos, the Great American Music Hall, the Independent, 12 Galaxies, the DNA Lounge, the Elbo Room, and Cafe Du Nord. Aside from working with multiple venues within the city, they are also committed to helping smaller national acts, whether in the Bay Area or not, filling venues with capacities of 1000 people. Sunset Promotions provides professional media outreach by employing an energetic grass roots street promotion scheme.

For the month of May Sunset is raising even their own already very high bar with a series of worthy events around the city.

Starting on May 8th is the return of Freqo De Mayo at 103 Harriet with Kid Kanobi and Sabo.

May 9th, the funk moves over to the styled out Triple Crown for Funko De Mayo.

On May 15th, Dutch electro-funk heads Kraak & Smaak perform live on stage at Mezzanine.

The very next night, May 16th, also at Mezzanine, you will be overwhelmed with an over-the-top musical and visual assault by a 25-piece indie techno circus act, Mutaytor and also featuring a DJ set with drums by Breakscience.

Rounding out the month on May 29th at Mighty is Mr. Scruff playing a 6 hour set of dub, hip hop, acid jazz, drum and bass and of course his own peculiar brand of musical breakbeat.
