Climate Theater, Anon Events and 37 North present the return of the critically acclaimed hit The Bright River at the Brava Theater Center. The Bright River is a theatrical, poetic beatbox musical and a hip-hop re-interpretation of Dante's Inferno told by Tim Barsky. The show follows a specialist in missing person cases as he travels into the afterlife in pursuit of a lost soul. The hellish afterlife is chaotic and miserable, a place where the dead still pay rent and souls get stuck between purgatory and hell.

For anyone who can appreciate the art of beatboxing, this is a show you can't afford to miss. Carlos Aguirre spits out sounds and rhythms you never knew the human mouth could create, lending a unique soundtrack and alternate mode of storytelling to the performance. Alongside Alex Kelly's creative use of the cello, Tim Barsky does something akin to beatboxing on a flute (?) which provides a creative sonic backdrop for the poetic script.

The show is accompanied by a live soundtrack which is performed by some of the best local hip-hop musicians in the Bay Area. The "mass-transit tour of the Afterlife" is set against an urban landscape that is at once realistic and fantastical. The story, which is a striking combination of hip-hop, Jewish folklore, theater and beatboxing, is part love story, part social commentary and an exploration of love, life, death and war. The Bright River will be taking place until February 20th with shows on Thursdays through Saturday starting at 8:00pm. Doors open at 7:00pm. Brava Theater Center is located at 2781 24th Street.
