Who says clowns can’t be sexy and terrifying at once? Here’s what a circus born at Burning Man evolves into: a burlesque-tinted, acrobatic, fire-breathing big top that Tim Burton might imagine in a sweet, twisted daydream. Forget what you know about the circus. This twisted adult-themed big top show is all about the creepy beauty of the human form when it’s painted, tightened, contorted, and suspended upside-down. Sorry, no dancing elephants balancing on a tiny ball ala tragic scene from Dumbo. Dig choreography by Neal Everett set to creepy live music by co-founder Kevin Bourque. “We’re a little grungier, darker, rougher and more theatrical than a typical circus,” says Bourque’s wife and co-founder Suzanne Bernel. —That may be an understatement.
GetWize: Cirque Bezerk drops at Los Angeles State Historic Park June 18th-July 5th. Arrive early and pre-party picnic-style with your own food and check out the interactive carnival-themed attractions before the show. After-party with the troupe and a live performance by Vaud & The Villains post-show in The Berzerk Lounge.
