Drinks at The Yard
The Yard Re-Opens As Santa Monica's New Gastropub

The Yard re-opened earlier this month and has re-invented itself as Santa Monica's Neighborhood Gastropub, bringing back the "pub" spirit without sacrificing any of the "gastro" pleasure. Just a block from the Santa Monica pier in an inconspicuous storefront, The Yard serves a wide selection of drinks coupled with tasty American-style tapas. The kitchen is under the deft hands of Chef Chris Jacobson, aka CJ from the third season of Top Chef, who just launched a new menu of small plates. Chef CJ adds flair to traditional bar favorites: baby back ribs with a pluot tomatillo bbq sauce and watermelon salad, fried cheese sticks with bacon ranch and chili fig dipping sauces, and fresh fish tacos with cumin slaw are some of our fav's. The sweet potato fries are an oldie but goodie as well.

What's a pub without good drinks? The Yard has eight beers on draft, four of which rotate on a seasonal basis, and a long list of bottled regional microbrews and major brands. Their wine list includes boutique reds and whites served by the glass or bottle. Don't forget to check out their signature cocktails. The BackYard Lemonade, a staff and customer favorite, is a refreshing gin elixir served on the rocks in a big glass jar.

The atmosphere at The Yard is casual and cozy with that mysteriously dim lighting so characteristic of pubs, but with a sense of sophistication and refinement. With the friendly crowds that build up throughout the evening, The Yard is a good ol' fashioned public house where charming people can gather for a relaxing drink after work, but with the added bonus of especially delicious eats thanks to Chef CJ.
