Why not do something a little different this week? Cirque Berzerk just opened at State Historic Park Downtown for a three weekend run of burlesque themed acrobatics and massive cleavage—both on the men and women, who, sometimes disguised as each other, flip and jump and stretch while dangling in midair. Not to mention the giant bag of kettle corn calling your name. Details can be found here.
As for dance appeal, the Trouble & Bass DJ crew of Drop The Lime, AC Slater, Star Eyes, and The Captain hit Echoplex (6/24) with future-forward bass heavy beats straight out of Brooklyn. No veterans to the decks, Steve Lawler & Lee Burridge tag-team Avalon (6/27) for a sweat-inducing house marathon. Meanwhile, UK’s James Zabiela updates us on where he’s currently taking breakbeat horizons at Vanguard (6/27) and Phoenix arrives from France, ready to slew minds with the band’s infectious electro jams at the Wiltern (6/28). If you're in it to win it this weekend, head over to the Electric Daisy Carnival for two days of absolute mayhem at the LA Memorial Coliseum.
For those looking to get their hip-hop on, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony plays Club Nokia (6/25), and you don’t want to miss the live experience of Bone Thugs’ harmonizing rap style. Also on Thursday, Daedelus, Peanutbutter Wolf, Jogger, and Mexicans With Guns celebrate the release of Daedelus and Jogger’s split-album on new indie label Friends of Friends (6/25). Prepare to join the awe-struck open-mouthed fans at Echoplex watching Daedelus carve through samples like a mad scientist working on Frankenstein’s bride.
Last, but certainly not least, the grand dame herself, Aretha Franklin, performs at Hollywood Bowl (6/26). Will she wear a fantastic hat?
