Greening the Treasure Island Music Festival

In its third year, Treasure Island Music Festival has already developed a reputation for bringing some of the best music to the bay and this year is no exception. Throwing a festival is no small order though and large events usually come with a large environmental impact. With that in mind, Treasure Island Music Festival is extremely cognizant of taking care of the site where the festival is held each year. The last two years TIMF was able to divert 72% of waste to recycling and composting - the second highest diversion rate at any festival in the Bay Area.

GetWize: This year TIMF is aiming even higher with the following greening tools for our conscience and convenience:
- Bauer's zero-emission buses will bring concert goers from AT&T Park to Treasure Island.
- The Festival is using biodiesel generators, reducing emissions of hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide.
- All ticket buyers will be able to offset their CO2 emissions by opting to pay an extra buck when you buy tickets - all the money collected will go towards renewable energy and reforestation programs.
- The festival offers and online guide to traveling to AT&T Park by foot, bike and MUNI. Check it out here.
- The Recycling store returns to collect water bottles, plastic cups and your old cell phones in exchange for various prizes. PRIZES!
- All printed materials are on recycled paper and the Festival will use compostable plastic cups and utensils for beer drinkin' and food eatin'.
- Leftover food will be taken to local shelters in SF.
Check out the Festival's website for more information about greening at TIMF and keep your experience on the Island guilt-free this year.
