Vegas Recession Survival Guide: Nightlife
By: Keegan Strouse 01/22/09Ok, so your bank account is showing a few less digits than it once did. That doesn't mean you still can't live it up on your next Vegas vacation, right? Right. The entertainment capital of the world can be a bargain hunter's dream, or nightmare, but let's focus on the positive. It's a fact every casino's goal is for you to pop as much cash into their machines as humanly possible and it is also true that they will go pretty far to get you to do so. So let us start with the basics: Comps. Comps are Vegas' way of saying "thanks for your deposit"; they come in a great deal of variations from free drinks, buffets, gifts, rooms and even shows; the possibilities are practically endless. But, where do you find these coveted freebies? Most mega-resort casinos offer free beverages to gaming patrons: just don't forget to tip your hostess. But to really show you're a seasoned Sin City survivor ask about signing up for the many players rewards programs virtually all casinos offer; they work by collecting points based on your gambling habits and soon you can be reaping the rewards.
Vegas may seem like another world, but in reality we're feeling the same economic slump as the rest of the US, and the world for that matter. Though this is bad for the casinos, this is great for Joe tourist. Many hotels and resorts are now offering exceptional stay offers to fill their rooms, some even offering free dinners, shows, and services with your booking. Case in point, the luxuriant Trump Hotel is offering a base price of $89 a night and a $50 spa credit for use at the hotel. To find the best deals go to the resort's website, many travel booking sites charge nominal fees for their services and are not updated enough to let you know about special offers that differ from casino to casino.
When it's time to party, Vegas offers some of the best nightlife anywhere. Here are a few night hot spots that offer free admission: Blue Martini is a casual chic hot spot right on the strip - more of a lounge atmosphere, it's just the place to see and be seen. Another favorite, Caramel at the Bellagio offers a grade A locale which hosts a calming atmosphere with music that takes you back, but not too far.
