Finding coffee and wine/ beer under one roof in this city isn’t too hard, but finding it where you can snuggle up with a book and your lover can be rough. We’ve compiled the best spots around town for that transition time between 4:30PM and 8PM, when you want a snack, a drink and maybe a cup of coffee, depending on the kind of day you’re having. These little wonders are often a cheaper alternative to the regular happy hour hoppin’ of after work normalcy by providing wine and beer happy hours at a much cheaper price.
Jack’s Stir Brew Coffee
The West Village is home to many a snuggled coffee shop with exposed brick and chalkboard writing; our favorite is Jack’s. It feels almost like ducking out of the city into a small town shop, the walls are lined with vintage photographs and the coffee has a great brew. Jacks is the place to be on Tuesday nights (Live music every week) and Thursday nights (16mm movies are screened) and the most pricey item in shop is about $5.00, so you’ll be able to get a few brews in during that movie time before you hit the rest of the party in the west village.
Think Coffee
Think Coffee on Bleecker St. provides a lovely sitting spot in the early afternoon for a variety of wine and cheese that will transport you to a European country side. Think specializes in artisian wines created in small batches for the ffullest flavor, with a wide variety of whites and reds, plus a $3 beer and wine happy hour every night you’ll be able to enjoy a few sips at a not so hefty price.
Grey Dogs Coffee
Grey Dog is the least coffee shop on our list, it’s really a restaurant, but it has a rreat variety of bar like snacks that taste like they came from your mothers kitchen, and sangria, wine by the glass and bottle and a selection of locally brewed beers, Grey Dog is the place to head if you skipped lunch and are looking for a bit more than a drink but not quite a full meal.
The Jake Walk
The Jake Walk is a casual bar inspired by prohibition that boasts one thing, the freedom of choice. Want a rose? A dark lager? A vintage scotch? You can get it all in this after hours hot spot. Not only are the drinks flowing but the ambiance will prepare you for a night on the town so head over to the Jake Walk before a night on the town to get it started the right way.
Cafeteria
Known all around town for it’s 24-hour hospitality and unusually fantastic diner food. While Cafeteria isn't the coziest of spots on our list, it does get the job done. The big secret is that this place has fantastic after work hours drinks and since it serves coffee and alcohol every hour of the day, you know they’ve got those beverages down pact.
