The World Festival
The World Fest Gets Weird

All summer long, KCRW’s World Festival has paired legendary acts like Etta James, Toots & The Maytals, and Femi Kuti with current dashing performers Santigold, Janelle Monae, and Adele, and on July 26th, we get a nice dose of the strange and over the top. Delicious. Grace Jones has been beautiful and bizarre since the late ‘70s, when her career began. She got more artsy and new wave in the ‘80s and she’s still kicking it as a provocative performer. You don’t know what to expect when Of Montreal takes the stage. Probably Kevin Barnes hanging himself or emerging from a casket filled with shaving cream. Finally, Dengue Fever may be a bit more visually tame, but their cross between Cambodian and Western folk is too charming to be ignored - with lyrics about taking Ambien while missing a lover who appears as an apparition in your dreams, or drunk dialing lost in Echo Park.

Get Wize: Tickets for the July 26th edition of the World Festival range from $10 to $98. The event takes place at 7:00 p.m. at Hollywood Bowl, where you can bring your own booze and snacks. Beware, if you park in their lot, you will be Tetris-locked in until the show ends. Not that you wanna dip out early on this one.
